Happy belated 116th!

First, thank you Google doodle for being the most reliable birthday calendar of the biggest personalities who have lived.

Mae West, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren... she dressed them all - and the list is endless - Madam one and only Edith Head, the most acclaimed female American costume designer.

Reykjavik, Icelove.

It sounds cold, and maybe monotonous, but my trip there was one of the most heart & soul warming experiences of my life. Do not think twice over it as a travel destination, it is definitely a place to fly to.

Nike ✓

As most of my viewers know by now, I'm a Nike lover-user & have a special 'affinity' for their Nike Dunk Sky Hi collections. Here are my two latest favorites: the Silver Air Max 1 trainers (new) already make me miss summer days in shorts, but right now I badly want to own a pair of the Sneakerboot with winter coming. Can it get more stylish than this for winter sport activites?

Mardi 22 Octobre en pleine ville de Genève. Il a fait bouger l'atmosphère, quel rythme, quelle capacité naturelle... Definitely putting to good use some empty plastic buckets and bringing the life out of them. The name is Phil Bondy, and he got ill skills,

Dress up zelfie

Post-shower pre-dinner situation

Mongolian cashmere & silver liquid pants

Who doesn't like to play a little game of dress-up from time to time? Since I'm a teenager I steal borrow my dad's cashmere jumpers & cardigans; he's keeping a nice collection for when he gets old (of course, I'm not letting that happen).

À la chasse!

Fall means also hunting season, and last night's dinner was memorable. In this blog, I will be sharing dinner outings and food scenes/experiences that are miam-certified by me.
Thus, I invite you to Restaurant du Creux-de-Genthod, a cosy gourmet retreat by the lac Léman

No editing, no filter, la ville de Genève and its jet d'eau as it was last night, on a crisp evening, lit by the moon reaching its fullness tonight. I fell in love with the sight that I could have stayed all night with a warm blanket, a glass of hot wine and roasted chestnuts.

Biellese Diaries, Day II

To end my Biellese Diaries, I have a few pictures from the second day on the golf course. The sun came out just after a breakfast of fruits, croissant, and dark americano, and the weather was ideal for an 18 holes game. I watched more than I played, sometimes hitting a ball or two. I used to be pretty good 4-5 years ago when every weekend I'd go to my lessons (good-looking instructors were a definite boost). However, without regular practice since then, I've lost a bit of my swing. I know it will come back the day I put more time into it, because along with focus and training, it's a sport that requires patience; reason why I personally think it's ideal with ageing.

Masculine chic toptom : Sweater - Zara. Pants - Lanificio F.lli Cerruti. Golf shoes - Adidas.

So I'm not too bad at it... although don't mention my drive (long-distance shot). Ever since that day it flew high out of my hands...

CHECK me out.

Whenever I travel, style-wise I like to fit with the vibe and/or scenery of the place. It's a natural behaviour to me as a traveler, for a sense of belonging. But here I'm like...

Russian babushka meets Scottish wife?

Yesterday's seeelfie!

The region of Biella is very well known for their production of fine woolen products; ever heard of Cerruti? I'll dedicate a separate post on the brand with pictures of my purchases from their textile mill (visited on Saturday); above I'm wearing one of the wool pants I bought.

(Sadly wi-fi is too slow for all the other pics to download - it's taking longer than 18 holes. Will have to wait homebound. In the meantime I'm enjoying this golf seclusion in the italian countryside... Baci x)

Biellese Diaries, Day I, Part I

Lucky me, I have parents who are addicted to golf. Even better, Mam is like the travel agency of the family, so, whenever work is off, traveling is the first thing she thinks of. And, if I'm free, in Geneva, well, I happily squeeze in the suitcase whistling tuturu turu ... Here I am, writing from the hotel bar with Italy's slowest wi-fi. But hey, really, there is nothing to complain about. Not only because I'm on the move, on explorer mode - time when I'm the happiest - but also because it's ITALY. No wait, let me reword:
It is the country in Europe that I've been to the most, since every year we escape there for the beach just before Summer ends. I mean by now I should be speaking italiano, but my conversational vocabulary is limited to Buon giorno, buona sera, grazie, dove si trova, molto buono...!  Four hours later by car, e voilà it's a whole different scenery, la dolce vita.

Grey girl on a Gray day Part II

The weather may be gray, but before the rainy days I wanted to wear both my white pants & sneakers. Most of you like to wear white during Summer, but I find it stands out more on these days when daylight is still hanging on to some clear brightness; it looks fresh and pure against everything else that seem more and more 'hazy' as it gets darker.

(Few images are a little out of focus, but hey, it's all part of the 'haziness'...)

Grey girl on a Gray day Part I

(Outfit post soon)

Just like the overcast skies we have had these last days, I am suddenly feeling gray. Although fall has settled since the end of September, to me October remains a shifting period of seasons where slowly I accept that winter is nearing, and when more and more I need to cover myself as the days get windier and the nights turn darker and colder.

Gray, the true neutral color, one that makes me think of the moon lighting over a lonely female wolf, and one that I have been attracted to since childhood - it can be emotional because of the feeling of isolation it can create, but I love it for its cooling effect. My entire room is only filled with different gray shaded furnitures, and it gives me a sense of stability. Probably 1/3 of my gray closet's content is gray; since the color is close to silver, naturally so are the majority of my accessories too. And I've just always prefered these cold, dark, and neutral tones, so I guess in a way I fit within this weather transition.

As I am still editing the gray outfit pictures, I will post them on later in the evening or first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime, this weather calls for a good baking session at home, or a movie night (I will be doing both, afterwards attending the screenings of different short animated movies at the théâtre du Grütli in town, as part of the International Animation Film Festival. Try and go see some of them, they are fantastic).

By the way, the marrons chauds (warm chestnuts) are now filling the streets of Geneva with their smell... definitely the warming sign of winter slowly but surely approaching.

** (My birthday is in December by the way... (coming soon, just so you know))

Started the week with a first shooting of street style in the center of Geneva town (five whole hours walking up and down >!< with the help of a friend* whom I'd like to thank again for being my eyes behind my back). A grey but warm day, some streets were quiet while others were busy with different kinds of people minding their own business'. This little 'project' was something that was on my mind before I even started the blog, when more and more I felt that something could be done to promote the 'style scene' in our beautiful little town. At the same time, one of my aims with this blogging is to inspire my readers/viewers to want to express themselves through wear. In my words,

Shot by *Sinan Uzal

Style isn't so much about making an effort to 'dress up', but more importantly, it's about taking the time to find out what it is that corresponds to one or many of the facets of your individuality; thinking about who you are or who you want to/can be. It's about your personal taste, your thoughts, and also your experiences, what you like and how would you show it so that your clothes/accessories isn't only your second skin, but an outer reflection of your inner self. Style is your personality coming through, however changing it may be because it can always evolve. And that is the beauty of style. It grows with you, helping you understand further just who you really are.

By the way, my personal coined word is toptom
(top + bottom = head to toe details)

So, camera in hand, style-radar on, I ran after a few people who caught my eye...

Бууз - Buuz

Meat filled dumplings, or one of the most delicious, satisfying, Mongolian steamed 'parcels'.

Steamed beauties
This authentic dish, buuz - pronounced with an 'ou' sound - is traditionally prepared at home on Tsagaan Sar ('White Moon'), the Mongolian Lunar New Year. The celebrations occur in February, and mountains of buuz - sometimes by thousands - are produced throughout the country; most families would start hand-making them weeks in advance and leave outside to freeze until the big day. Commonly they are served with salads (cabbage, carrot, and/or the popular niislel salad with potatoes*), and accompanied with milk-tea and vodka.
It is a meal that is demanding if undertaken alone, requiring the exercise of several hands and essentially the skills that are generally passed on from grandmother/mother to daughter. It usually takes years of practice to perfect the 'savoir-faire'**. The dough consistency has to be right from the start, otherwise the end result will not be as good as it should be. Most importantly, they are a success when they are juicy at first bite; a burst of warm and meaty succulence in your mouth. Believe it or not, the future bride is 'tested' by the quality of her buuz cooking (so the elders say...)
Although it is a festive cuisine, it is today largely enjoyed at any time during the week or weekends. I find it special because of the comfort that comes with it. Above all, to me it represents unity, family and the well-being of a home.

* Niislel means 'capital'
** 'know-how'

Blogger? Me?

It was about time...
They say, 'there is a first time for everything'.
Well here I am writing it, my first post for my first personal blog. I feel a mix of nervosity, excitement, what-are-you-thinking...but the truth is, the idea of a blog has been running through my head for the past four years.

SO THIS IS IT, today IS the day.

Where have I been in those last FOUR years? I was in London studying at University*, working on various projects as well as doing internships**, discovering the town to its heart and meeting all kinds of new people. At the same time, I traveled vastly, visited my family and friends in Geneva (my hometown), and so really, I did not give myself the time to sit down and just DO the blog already. In July I graduated (woot woot!)(or, in other words: I am jobless) and now I guess there is no excuse. And I am glad. Glad that studying years are over, happy to be out of the education system, to finally be able to dedicate my days to this place > right here <, where I look forward to share lively bits of my life and interact with the world. Also, this is the first step that I am taking to publicly display my illustrations to a wider audience, which is something I never did much.

Regarding the title of my blog, I knew it well before I thought of the content:

AdZastra, denoting the stars and connoting space, night & light, energy, destiny, and so much more. Ever since I can remember I have always been attracted to stars; not just their beauty and the sight of them, but their shape too (I have to say, it is ridiculous the amount of things I easily buy because of this - who still have their Ikea star-shaped light in their room?).

On a personal note, I have two tattoos related to stars & co. The one on the back is in actual fact the coordinates of the star named after me.
Finally, to close this ★ section, my full name in Mongolian signifies 'Bright moon'***. I am sure now you all understand my affiliation since pre-birth with those wonders.

In this blog, there will be photographies, illustrations, and my personal thoughts on...

  • Fashion - always the truth, only the truth, just the truth (should be fun).
  • Travels - here & there, everywhere.
  • Lifestyle - my looks & bites****

I now enter the blogosphere, and you may officially call me a blogger.

Hope you like it (& comments are always welcome).
