It's ok to reflect on the past, just remember to look forward.
Keep daring in life, and take risks.

Live for the moment and make it count.

End of the Christmassy week.

Are you putting on a pair of high heels to go out and date the night,
or staying in warm at home to chill and relax, away from all sight?

In Mongolian, Zul saryn bayar is Christmas celebration.

So... I'm still waiting for my presents!

Photos from magical Strasbourg

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

21.12.13 - Place de la Cathédrale
"Strasbourg's historic city centre, the Grande Île (Grand Island), was classified a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988, the first time such an honour was placed on an entire city centre. Strasbourg is fused into the Franco-German culture and although violently disputed throughout history, has been a bridge of unity between France and Germany for centuries (...)" *

Last weekend we went to the Alsace region in north eastern France, spending Friday night & Saturday in its capital city Strasbourg, and Sunday at Colmar. It was my second trip to the former, and this time it was even better and more magical; not only because since now I have my driver's license I get to drive - 4 hours distance one way (I love driving, especially road tripping) - but mostly because at this time of the year the little towns are turned into winter wonderlands, like in a Christmas fairy tale. It's utterly beautiful, romantic, blissfully festive, soul-warming...
And Strasbourg is well known for its countless marchés de noël (winter markets), all spread in different places in and outside of the island; a delightful explosion of vivid colors & lights, one has never seen Christmas 'paraded' like this before.

Watch my visual diary...

@ Place des Nations
I did this shoot end of fall, just before the month of November; of course now in this part of the world we're all in big winter coats... (you know what they saaay) better late than never (and hey, just change into boots and wear the same coat and you're well on your way to looking good in layers in this cold). This is my 'typical' way to dress for natural cool. Now I know for most of you natural does not "fit" with wearing heels, which is why I love THIS bag, or how I like to call it, my Mary Poppins purse! I can put so much stuff in it, like in this case, my heels or flats (remember my personal pick - the butterfly twists - on-the-fly?) + sanitary bag, umbrella, wallet, iPad, agenda, pencil case, phone, keys, chocolates, etc... it's bottomless! Sometimes I also feel like a doctor when I head out with it because of its shape and overlapping opening (I'm sure you see what I mean). Oh but I love this bag for so many other reasons - its somewhat rough aspect and feel, its soft curves but firm handles and chunky zips, the essential adjustable and removable strap I always look for in a handbag... It had been a while that I was looking for a black carryall, but - specific moi - not in a tote manner, no gloss, not too square, and mostly, NO gold details (please). So I happily fell in love with this one the moment I saw it (September time, while in Italia). Location-wise I've always wanted to do a style shoot in Place des Nations & the outside gardens of the WIPO*, and I knew this particular look would be right in the frame. Don't ask why, it was a sudden feeling and a sense of place; see for yourselves...

I know this recipe thanks to the wonderful British cook Lorraine Pascale, and made it for the first time last week for a special friend's birthday. It was love at first bite*.

A glass of milk has never looked this good and inviting.

As the saying goes, sharing is caring, so with a few of my changes (less butter + sugar), let me put you in a place less than an hour away from total sweet bliss.

Remembering Mandela

18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013
'Father of the Nation' - 09.12.13

We all know who he was and what he stood for in this world. This drawing took me an hour and a half, and with every pencil move I could almost feel the somewhat weighty yet fulfilled life he has led. I believe that human beings' expressions - especially as they grow old - are the lifelong reflections of their selves, thoughts, and doings. Looking at Mandela's wrinkles and while carefully representing each one of his facial lines and traits, it is hard not to remember his robust life trails: South-African revolutionary and its first black president, Father of anti-Apartheid, Nobel Peace Prize winner, prisoner for 27 years, philanthropist, and so much more... As he said it himself,

'When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace.'

And so you shall...
Rest in peace Nelson Mandela, Tata.

I will remember him through his wise words, with 5 of my favourite quotes:

Too cool for school

  It's #Monday

Chanel SS14 for artsy moi
Ad Zastra lovin' this ofc.

Seriously (think twice), if anyone get me these two, I would glaaadly go back to school with the Mi Pac Star print backpack, and to uni with genius Lagerfeld's portfolio, ANYTIME, ANY DAY. For the first, hop on the bus early morning, books and binders, bigger-than-your-hand calculator (who has touched that one since high school?) and pencils on the go... barely ready to face teachers, him/her/them, submit half-done homeworks, undergo test(s) like "wait, what?!"... - I WOULD. For the second, just imagine you almost have a successful application guaranteed when you show up with it on the day of the interview...(You must be kiddin' right? No I'm dead serious )

(No way I would even consider skipping a class).

Message in a bottle...

When I first knew I was going to Portugal, more precisely to the capital Lisboa, I wasn't quite sure what it would be like; the culture, the people (other than their world famous accent, of course), the sights, and especially the feel of the country. I have mostly Portuguese acquaintances rather than friends, and none of my close relationships had been there, so it was going to be a real "wait and see for yourself" trip.

And what a great destination... as a traveller, it exceeded my expectations and the overall experience was just surprise after another surprise...

...in a few words;

mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, first fresh snow, mountain air, winter markets, candle lights, mist, skiing, snowboarding, hot chocolate, melted cheese (raclette, fondue...), winter wear, cashmere, decorations, christmas tree, presents, sparkles, champagne, foie gras, sea food-fest, moon boots comfort, fire crackling, roast meals, more wine & cheese, liquor-filled chocolates, thermal baths, dark days, fur, cuddles, starry escapes ...

(London, past midnight, after a fun night out in Winter Wonderland)

... mostly, nostalgia and melancholy.

Eritrean cuisine

HANDS DOWN, this place to me is one of the best in London. And when I say hands down, I also literally mean ready steady fingers...

Felafel, or balls of spiced chickpeas and fava beans + awaze, spicy chilli paste & natural yoghurt.

So, who's reaaally hungry?

London times

I still can't believe we're in December already... can you? I am back in Geneva, my hometown, to spend the winter festivities with my family. All of November I was in London, and golly how much I had missed it - the air, the streets, the people, the sounds, the sights, the countless things to do...! November was a great month for me, thanks to my work experience at Condé Nast Traveller (...), but also to all the small unexpected 'surprises' you get living in L town. *Sigh*
I will be back of course... 'cause London, you always in my heart ♥.

Hello Big Ben

Sunday, 1 December 2013

Today is the 1st of December, an important day to remind us of HIV's existence in our world. Whether you are heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, doing drugs (...), this concerns everyone because anyone can be affected. Inform yourself here; face and fight the epidemic.
Most importantly, protect yourself and help protect others.
Do regular check-ups in health clinics; don't live in denial and fear, better be safe than sorry for life.

BE CONSCIOUS. 1 World, 1 Love.
